ALL NEW! GM Performance Evaluations (Not)

Did you ever have an experience where someone describes something as so unique, but when you look at it, all you see is something incredibly common. WeWork is an example. They positioned themselves as this tech company focused on building community and all I saw was a guy in real estate selling office space. Telsa is another one example. They claim to be an AI company, but I see a car company.

Don’t get me wrong - WeWork and Tesla had something that differentiated them, but it was simply a new take on an old thing.

I had this feeling last week when I was reading about GM and their new and improved performance management system. They talked about all the bells and whistles and used some pretty impressive corporate jargon. Yet, it is the same performance management system that they, and most other companies, have always had.
