Can Rewards Be Harmful?

I was captivated by the recent Paris Olympic Games. I always find it fun to watch the best in the world. This year was especially great seeing the different sports and watching the quality sportsmanship. Whether you were amazed by Simone Biles, had fun watching surfing (which my wife did), or thrilled to see the Men’s and Women’s basketball team dominate, there was something for you.

One story that I didn’t pay a lot of attention to, but read about afterwards was pole vaulting. Currently, there is no one better than Mondo Duplantis. He wins every competition he enters, in dominating fashion. He wins by outrageous margins (often beating his competitor by a foot in a sport measured in inches).

He even sets world records, besting himself, regularly. This is our managerial lesson for today.
