On this date in 1965, Malcolm X was assassinated in New York City. During Black History Month, we should learn as much as we can about influential people. No doubt he was controversial to some, but we can’t shy away from controversy because it is hard.
One of the things managers have to deal with now is the hard issues that come from the outside world into the workplace. Whether it be equality, murder, or a tragic event.
Let’s get started.
1 Big Thing
Leaders Need to be Curious
Great corporate cultures are not just good for performance, but for the flourishing and engagement of the people who work in them and to deliver greater meaning and purpose. But oft overlooked is the central role that curiosity plays in crafting an organization.
Why it Matters… Executives get caught up in bubbles of information. Managers have to find ways to get information to them and help feed their curiousity.

The Eisenhower Matrix
One of the great time management struggles has always been how to do important things, not just urgent things. The Eisenhower Matrix is a classic tool to help with this struggle.
This video describes how to use the matrix appropriately.
By the Numbers
77%
77% of employees do not believe that the organization considers capacity when rolling out new initiatives.
Why it Matters… This leaves employees feeling like they don’t have enough resources to succeed. The business says “do more with less”. The people hear “keep doing more and more” and feeling the stress of it.
Words of Wisdom
“Vision is dandy, but sustainable company excellence comes from a huge stable of able managers.”
