How Do Organizations Decide Who to Layoff?

EDITOR’S NOTE: There will not be a In The News post next week due to the Thanksgiving holiday. We will return in December.

Layoffs suck (not exactly making an earth-shattering proclamation). One of the biggest questions that happens after a layoff is “why that person” or “why me” if you were the one who was laid off. As a manager, there is a strong likelihood that you will not have that answer - too often those decisions are made with little to no input from you.

However, you should be aware in general of how these decisions are made so you can talk with your team about them. This article is a good place to start your understanding.
