The title of this article is a quote from an executive at a Chinese company. The Wall Street Journal wrote a story about a series of videos she created that set out her expectations for her employees. Let’s just say she did not come across as nurturing or supportive. It should come as no surprise that the employees pushed back and when the videos were released, she was fired.
The fact this occurred in China is one interesting fact. A culture known for draconian work styles, sometimes referred to as 996 (9 am to 9 pm, 6 days a week). It shows that the backlash by the younger workforce is not limited to the US.
What struck me most, and what I want to talk about here, is the language used and the expectation set.
