This story is long past its expiration date, but it is illustrative of a key principle that I wish all managers would teach employees. Earlier this year, Eric Schmidt - former CEO of Google - gave a talk at Stanford. While I’m sure he said many interesting things, one thing stood out.
“Google decided that work-life balance and going home early and working from home was more important than winning,” Schmidt said. “And the startups, the reason startups work is the people work like hell.”
